As part of its strategic expansion plan abroad, the Egyptian startup Shezlong, the first and largest psychotherapy platform in the MENA region, announced the launch of its business in South Africa under the name “Upright".

Due to the mental health crisis in South Africa, Shezlong's entry into the southern African country comes in its duty to step up and provide help to people in need.

Shezlong chose this country specifically for a research series, which drew attention to the great need for mental health services and, more specifically, e-mental health.

Expansion into South Africa will help reach marginalized populations who are subservient to the health system and are suffering from a variety of mental health issues that are significantly affecting their quality of life.

"We are proceeding with a clear strategy and a firm vision for expansion and growth. We aim to make mental well-being a daily routine for every individual in Africa to help build resilient communities, therefore inducing a positive impact on the well-being of society through innovative, accessible and user-friendly technologies“, said Mohamed Alaa, CEO of Shezlong.

In recent times people in South Africa have been exposed to various incidents that significantly affect their mental health, such as a high rate of gender violence, lack of proper care during pregnancy and unemployment, among many other factors.

Currently, startup Shezlong has built a website and app dedicated to Upright's brand identity. This is just a stepping stone towards your larger goal, which is to make mental health available and accessible to every single person on this planet, as everyone deserves to have the best quality of life possible.

For the startup's creators, it believes in its mission, and will certainly achieve it in one day.
