Threads, Meta's social network and main competitor to X (formerly Twitter), announced a new feature that allows users to share temporary publications, known as "ghost posts," which automatically disappear after 24 hours.
The feature will be available starting this Monday for all platform users worldwide.
With this new format, Threads' more than 400 million monthly users will be able to express ideas or participate in conversations that automatically delete after a day, promoting more spontaneous and less permanent interactions.
"Ghost posts" can be created on mobile devices by selecting the ghost icon in the post composition window. Once published, the message appears in other users' timelines surrounded by a dotted bubble, distinguishing it from other traditional posts.
Other users, both on computers and mobile phones, can reply to the ghost post, but these replies are sent directly via private message (DM) to the poster and are not displayed on the public timeline.
Below the post, you'll see smiley icons indicating whether someone liked or responded to the content. However, only the author can see the exact number of reactions and interactions, as well as who participated.
After the 24-hour period, the posts disappear from the timeline, but remain accessible to the author in the “Archived” section, available in the application's main settings menu.
