Indian court orders WhatsApp to block illegal newspaper sharing groups

A court in India has given court orders that the WhatsApp remove or block in-app groups where newspapers and magazines are illegally shared, reveals the TorrentFreak.

This move comes after one of India's largest media groups - the DB Corp Ltd – have filed a criminal complaint against the company’s messaging app Meta.

Also informing that DB Corp Ltd is responsible for publishing five newspapers in that Asian country, and due to illegal sharing through WhatsApp, the company claimed that the situation has affected its ability to generate revenue. In the said lawsuit, the media company provided the court with various evidence regarding these shares, and because of the same evidence presented, the judge ordered WhatsApp to act immediately.

Although the case goes back to court in May 2022, until then, WhatsApp is obliged to continue removing or blocking any group where newspapers and magazines are shared without permission.
