Twitter will zoom to 280 characters by limit

O Twitter announced on Tuesday a project to increase the size of messages posted on the social network, the so-called tweets, the 280 characters.

The company, based in San Francisco, California, explains that the novelty has not yet been implemented for all users. The new limit of 280 characters (instead of current 140) will be made available to almost every language in the world.

"We are doing something new: we are going to try a higher limit, 280 characters, in languages impacted by compression".

Twitter plans to keep the old boundary active for Japanese, Chinese and Korean tweets because internal data has shown that characters written in these languages fit freely in the intended space.

The company shows data to justify testing with 280 characters. On average, English-language publications have 34 characters. On the other hand, the average number in Japanese publications is 15 characters.

The novelty is still in the testing phase and is not available to all users of the social network.
