UFS 3.0: Get to know the new "SSD memory" for smartphones

2986

Nowadays much talk of the memories SSD (Solid State Drive), that sooner or later will take the place of the HDD. Since the smartphone market has grown satisfactorily, SSD technology has come to this segment.

What is UFS technology?

Universal Flash Storage, is a storage pattern developed by JEDEC Solid State Technology Association. This standard was built with the aim of replacing the eMMC (embedded Multi-Media Controller), which consists, in general terms, of a "memory card" style integrated into the equipment itself that has the flash memories, but which also incorporates the respective controller.

In addition, UFS memory is more energy efficient compared to eMMC memory.

Generally speaking, UFS 3.0 storage memory will be twice as fast as version 2.1. According to the developer of the technology, UFS 3.0 memory should allow read speeds in the order of 2.4 GB / s (1.2 GB / s is the theoretical limit for memory 2.1).

Do smartphones already include this model?

Currently some smartphones include 2.0 and 2.1 memory modules. However, some brands still include eMMC, a type of memory with lower read and write speeds, but also cheaper. It should also be noted that Samsung was the first company to launch the world's UFS memory cards.
