One in four users has outdated Firefox

Mozilla FirefoxThe Mozilla Organization decided to follow the kind of crazy of launching browsers like Google Chrome. It's no secret that this strategy did not please many users.

The big reason is the extension compatibility. Imagine you are installing an extension to access www.menosfios.com, compatible with version 16 of Firefox. Everything works perfectly, until a month later Mozilla alerts, there is a new update. And now, update or not update

According to a report released by Kaspersky Lab, approximately one in four PC users perform obsolete or outdated versions of Firefox.

Browsers installed in a random sample of 10 million users from the Kaspersky Lab database were analyzed and some curiosities can be highlighted:

  • Firstly, Internet Explorer is the most common default browser, being used by 37,8% of users.
  • Second we have the Google Chrome browser with 36,5%
  • Third, comes the much talked about Firefox (19,5%)
  • Fourth comes Opera (6%)
  • Lastly, Apple's Safari comes - all because of the tiny number of users who use antivirus on Macs.

Some users may wonder about the consequences of this act (not updating the browser):

The director of whitelisting and infrastructure search engine from Kaspersky Lab, Andrey Efremov, responds:

“That means millions of potentially vulnerable machines, constantly attacked by new and well-known web threats. This represents strong evidence of the urgent need to use appropriate security software, capable of reacting to new threats in minutes, not days or weeks ”

A financial security of browsers is not ideal yet, but companies like Microsoft, Mozilla, Opera and Google, have been working hard to make security fixes available. But it seems that fixing is not enough.

There is a well-known phrase in the security area: “The biggest vulnerability is between the monitor and the chair ..."

Have you updated your browser? Are you sure?
