The mobile operator UNITEL demarcated itself from the information that states that the company "does not have the conditions to share on the sites, which he refused to share in Luanda“, words of the General Manager of the company in an interview with Valor Económico newspaper, in its most recent press edition.

According to the operator's official communiqué, to which the editorial staff of MenosFios had access, UNITEL says that it does not agree with the above words, and that “is not responsible for the interpretations that such publication may imply, clarifying right away that the sharing of infrastructure is regulated by the legal regime of Presidential Decree n° 166/14 of July 10th and as defined in article 18", where the same "grants the possibility of refusal when the refusal of the sharing in question is technically and physically unfeasible".

BUT: Africell accuses Unitel of “extortion” in sharing infrastructure

Still in the note, the main operator in the country adds that “refused the request of 100 sites requested by the new operator(Africell) to Luanda only because of the technical unfeasibility of those places and technical equipment that they intended to install", ending yet that "is available to share sites, essentially outside Luanda, but will always have to assess the feasibility and the cost in case of increase or change will have to be accepted, we cannot simply accept that the price is imposed on us according to what Africell intends or invokes without our observing these conditions".

It should be noted that this statement comes after the Valor Económico newspaper published an article as a result of an interview with the Director General of UNITEL, Miguel Geraldes, and headlined the article with the following text: “UNITEL does not have the conditions to share on the sites, which he refused to share in Luanda".

In that article, the Angolan weekly says that “At a time when the market was in some turmoil, forced by the entry of a new operator, UNITEL's Director General argues that the company has an obligation to maintain market leadership. In an interview answered by email, Miguel Geraldes also presents the reasons why the company he directs is not sharing its infrastructure with Africell".
