The statements were made during the ceremony commemorating National Banking Day, under the theme “Reflection on 50 years of history and the challenges of the future”.
Speaking to those present, Maria Fontes Pereira emphasized that the determining factor was not only digitalization, but above all the banking sector's ability to reinvent itself. She highlighted financial inclusion, transparency, and accessibility as pillars of this transformation.

She also noted that the expansion of specific products, particularly simplified accounts, played a crucial role in enabling more street vendors to integrate into the formal financial system. According to the vice-governor, this development has strengthened the economy and improved the living conditions of many citizens.
He added that digital transformation has been one of the main drivers of the sector's evolution, revolutionizing banking processes and services and making them faster, more efficient and accessible, especially for populations in remote regions who previously faced difficulties in accessing banking services.
