Vice-president of Guinea accepts space trip proposed by Russia

The vice-president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang, announced that he has accepted an offer from the Russian State Space Corporation (Roscosmos) to undertake a trip to space organized by the Russian agency.

"Roscosmos employees invited me to be the first from our African region to embark on a space journey and I accepted“, said the vice president, also known as “Teodorin”, on his social networks.

Teodoro Nguema Obiang added that he has to undergo physical tests, necessary for the trip, or choose someone to represent him.

Obiang visited the Roscosmos operations center today “to certify its potential and discuss one of the major projects in Equatorial Guinea“, the launch of its own communications and location satellite.

Yuri Borisov, director of the Russian space agency, expressed his desire to cooperate with Malabo in its space projects and, according to the official website of the Equatorial Guinean Government, asked to travel to Equatorial Guinea in January of next year, “to complete the formalities".

The vice-president of Equatorial Guinea, a country that belongs to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), is making an official visit to Moscow, where he has also discussed issues of military cooperation with the Russian deputy defense minister, Alexandr Fomín .
