Cape Verde participated with a delegation of 15 people in the WebSummit, in Rio de Janeiro, one of its biggest missions aimed at reinforcing remote work provided by Cape Verdeans to Brazilian companies, revealed the Secretary of State for Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes.

"We came to present a talent platform to Brazil. We want young Cape Verdeans to be able to work remotely for the Brazilian market, without leaving the country“, said the representative at a press conference during the second edition of the Web Summit, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

In order to fulfill this ambition, Cabo Verde Digital signed a memorandum of understanding with a Brazilian startup, founded by a Cape Verdean, “that employs Cape Verdean talents“, he stressed. “We came to tell Brazil that Cape Verde can be a gateway to the African continent".

He added that Cape Verde's characteristics allow it to operate remotely, as it is the closest African country to Brazil, with a shared historical and cultural relationship with Brazil. “Our history is often associated with people who were enslaved, and we have no taboo with that, we just want to retell our story“, said the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes, highlighting that innovation and technology is a tool that gives strength to Cape Verdeans.

The Technology Park, which the Government plans to put into operation this year, in order to boost the Digital Economy sector, will bring competitive tax conditions for international companies to establish themselves in Cape Verde, according to the government official. “We are a small country, known for tourism, but we want to rely more and more on international companies”, he said, adding that the mission involves “positioning the country in a continent “that is eager for change”.
