Improvements have been constant to increase user security and privacy. These are small changes that have been expected for some time, but are only now taking shape and becoming available to everyone.
Hide IP during calls for security
The first new feature allows the IP address of the device where the call is made to be hidden. This new option is in the settings and must be activated manually by the user. When activated, calls will be routed through Meta/WhatsApp servers, thus hiding the IP address.

WhatsApp states that the IP address may contain important information, such as geographic location or Internet provider. Many users want to keep this data protected. With this option, calls are made via WhatsApp and not directly, as is the case with most competitive proposals.
It should be noted that when activating this option, call quality is reduced, which is a small price to pay to guarantee security and privacy. The company also emphasized that calls are always encrypted end-to-end, even when the new relay option is being used.
A second new feature comes with the silencing of unknown numbers. This is also an option that needs to be activated and will block incoming calls from unregistered contacts. This way, users are protected against spam calls and unwanted contacts.
These two new features are already available in the latest versions of the WhatsApp app. Any of them must be manually activated by users, who will immediately have the new features active and ready to be used.
