WhatsApp announced this Tuesday (04) the launch of its long-awaited application for the Apple Watch. For the first time, users will be able to receive call notifications, read complete messages and record or send voice messages directly from the Apple smartwatch.
“This new experience will allow you to stay up-to-date with your conversations without having to take your iPhone out of your pocket,” WhatsApp explained in a post on its official blog. “In addition to reading and replying to messages, WhatsApp on Apple Watch now supports several features that users have been requesting.”
Among the new features, highlights include the ability to react to messages, see more of the conversation history on the screen, and view images and stickers with greater clarity.
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, also guaranteed that messages and calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption, maintaining the same level of security that users are already familiar with. The company added that it intends to add even more features to the Apple Watch in future updates.
To use the app, you need an Apple Watch Series 4 or later, with watchOS 10 or a more recent version.
The announcement didn't surprise anyone, as WhatsApp had been seen testing the new app last week.
In recent months, the company has been expanding access to its platform beyond mobile phones and computers. In May, it launched the official iPad app, which allows users to make video and audio calls with up to 32 people, share their screen, and use both the front and rear cameras.
