WhatsApp will allow you to hide your phone number within groups

WhatsApp it will allow you to hide your phone number within groups, and for supergroups that have not yet debuted on the platform here in Angola. The new privacy option found by the WABetaInfo website will help to avoid unwanted contacts from other participants in these spaces.

It's the first time that a function like this appears on the platform — until now, it's been impossible to hide your own number from other people in a group, for example. Attention to this problem had been announced by the company in an interview with The Verge in April, but until then the feature had not appeared in the application.

Hiding your own number has its uses: in this way, the user avoids unnecessary exposure of his contact number to strangers, which can cause inconvenience. On WhatsApp, the function was found under the name “Phone number sharing” (“Phone number sharing”, in free translation) and can be found in the “Group information” section — when “off”, the numerical sequence is hidden for the other members.

BUT: WhatsApp will give more power to group admins

In WhatsApp groups, the user can choose whether he wants to hide his contact from all subgroups or make exceptions for specific chats. No details are yet known about the tool — whether, for example, it will be possible to enter into a direct chat with someone who has a hidden number (and thus discover their contact).

Now, the function is still under development and naturally not even testers have access to it for now. It is worth mentioning that the function will be exclusive to Groups, therefore, unlike what happens in Telegram, it will not be possible to hide your own phone in WhatsApp in other scenarios.
