Windows 7 will alert users to the end of security updates

About two years ago, Microsoft warned about the support for Windows 7 ends in 2020, but to leave the users more within the information, a update recently deployed will alert users that Microsoft will stop providing security updates for the operating system after January 14, 2020, with a not-so-important reminder that the software has been around for 10 years.

This update should start appearing on April 18. The alert will be hard to ignore when you first arrive, although fortunately the user has the option to turn off future reminders.

Many people are likely to see the warning. Windows 7 accounted for almost 40,2% of desktop use in February 2019, slightly more than the use of Windows 10. Many of these people are on computers that are experiencing problems with Windows 10 or are using corporate machines on which operating system updates may be out of control. Microsoft knows that this message can persuade at least some of those users.

There is a strong incentive to give continuous support, at least to companies and institutions. When official support is Microsoft will only provide consistent security updates for companies that pay for extended support, which will end in 2023.
