During the pandemic that ravaged the world (COVID-19), one of the mechanisms used to not stop schools and universities was distance learning, which not all countries achieved good results, some due to the lack of adequate tools, others due to the lack of a stable internet signal. So much so that in Angola, the Distance learning reached only 20% of Angolan schools in times of pandemic.

But after we have overcome this phase of the pandemic, some countries have already started to opt for distance learning, and Angola is not escaping the rule, according to the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eugénio da Silva, who informed, this Wednesday , in Luanda, that the country's higher education institutions are creating the conditions for the implementation of the distance and blended learning system.

The official was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony for the training of teachers in distance learning, which brings together 57 professionals, in an initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in partnership with the Higher Education Support Program (UNITY). According to the official, Angolan universities are not yet prepared for this new paradigm, but recognize the need to adhere to this system which, when implemented, will coexist with the face-to-face regime.

He pointed out as an advantage of the new education system the possibility of direct monitoring of students, without their physical presence, in the academic premises. “We are working so that the internet signal and its availability can effectively favor the development of this type of training initiatives, whether distance learning or blended learning”, he reinforced.

o The official considered essential to train teachers and provide technical support to higher education institutions, in order to achieve the much-desired transformation of education in Angola. Also remember that in 2019 the Ministry of Education guaranteed that it was studying the possibilities of implementing distance learning in Angola.
