[Angola] National winners of the 2013 DStv Star Awards presented

Multichoice Angola and its partner EutelSat presented yesterday, 05 of November, the national winners of the Prizes Star DStv 2013. The MenosFios.com team has been following the competition and could not be present at the event held in the auditorium of the Media Library of Luanda, where the winners are publicly presented:

  • Sheila Geraldo. 123 College in Huila, 1ª classified in the Writing category,
  • Felipe Emílio. Polytechnic Institute of Sambizanga, 1º classified in the category Poster,
  • Floriano Cataliva of Luanda and Helena Pequenino of Benguela as winners of 2 in the Writing and Poster categories, respectively.

As for the prizes, the first portable computer, a complete DStv kit, with a free assembly and subscription for one year of the DStv Bué package, the second-placed ones received an iPad and also a DStv complete kit. The schools and teachers who guided the registration of the winning students also received a complete DStv kit and a HTC mobile phone.

The competition does not stop here, the works of the national winners will compete in the continental final with participants from more than 40 African countries. This year Angola was the country with the highest number of, with a total of 203 registrations being 70 girls and 133 boys, coming from the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Cabinda, Huambo, Huíla, Kwanza Norte, Kwanza Sul, Luanda, Malange and Namibe. The jury was composed of elements from the Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the Media Library of Angola and Multichoice Angola.

Os winners will be entitled to a trip to France, to visit the Eutelsat facilities in Paris and watch the launch of a rocket, the runners-up will be entitled to a trip to South Africa to visit the headquarters of Multichoice Africa and the South African space station, as it was in the 2011 edition and 2012. We hope that this time one of the Angolan candidates will be the continental winner!

These awards aim to inspire innovative thinking among secondary and high school students, raise awareness of how science and technology can be applied in our day-to-day life and show the many ways in which satellites influence the continent's development African.
