A Cameroon Customs entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Singaporean company Fintech KiwiPay and French logistics company Bollore Transport & Logistics to secure and facilitate internal e-commerce transactions.

The three-year tripartite agreement was signed in the capital Yaounde on November 3, 2021 by the Director General of Customs, Edwin Fongod, the Regional Director of Bollore Transport and Logistics for the Gulf of Guinea, Serge Agnero, and the Representative of KiwiPay Central Africa , Christophe Nicolas.

Thanks to the partnership, through KiwiPay's super-app KiwiGo, users in Cameroon will have access to global e-commerce platforms, including Amazon. KiwiPay will ensure that purchases made online through its app are delivered to users in Cameroon in good condition.

BUT: Pandemic drives e-commerce

The company will give users access to parallel payment options such as WeChat Pay, Google Pay, AliPay and Apple Pay, which they can use for reservations, international money transfers, payment services, and more. The platform has already been tested and will be launched in the country in early December.

The agreement allows Bollore Transport & Logistics to streamline the delivery of goods purchased through the KiwiPay platform and handle customs clearance formalities and payment of customs duties and taxes.

The customs department will ensure that KiwiPay packages arriving in the country benefit from an express mode of processing. Cameroon Customs will also grant preferential tariffs on products purchased on the KiwiPay platform in an attempt to encourage e-commerce in Cameroon.
