Audio and video calls arrive at WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp started making available to your app for Windows MacOS the function of video and audio connections. The feature, much requested by users to eliminate the need to speak on the cell phone when they are working in front of the computer, started to reach users after a period of testing.Calls on WhatsApp on the Web are limited to two people, while on the mobile version it is possible to join up to eight people on the same call. WhatsApp still does not say when more people will be able to chat with each other, on the desktop version of your application. However, the service says that possibility is under development.

We started with one-to-one calls on the WhatsApp desktop application to make sure we can provide you with a quality and reliable experience. We will be launching this feature to include group voice and video calls soon.

To access video calls on WhatsApp Web, simply tap on the video call or audio call icons in individual conversations. Otherwise, the calls work the same way as on the cell phone.

The new function will help a lot of those who work constantly on computers, since the lack of this function made many look for third-party applications such as Zoom ou Google Meet for simple calls, and many times these platforms did not have the installed base of users that WhatsApp counts - recent data released by the company indicate that the application is used by more than 2 billion people worldwide.

Voice and video calls on WhatsApp are encrypted from end to end. Therefore, neither WhatsApp itself can read or listen to them, whether it is calling from a phone or a computer. This is also true for hackers, governments and other identities who cannot spy and, therefore, overhear conversations.
