From the 11th of May, some adjustments will be made to the Play Store policies, which will affect Android users and developers, where some will be more notorious than others. One of the changes will directly affect those who use apps to record voice calls on Android.

According to NLL Apps user , reports that this specific policy change affects the use of the Accessibility API by app creators.

“Accessibility API is not designed and cannot be requested for audio recording of remote calls”

This same information was confirmed in a webinar which took place yesterday (21) for programmers.

BUT: Have an Android? Beware of these 151 malicious apps

The privacy and security of users seems to be the company's motivation for this adjustment. Furthermore, call recording laws differ greatly from country to country, making the legalization process more complex.

It should be noted that in Android 10, Google had already blocked call recording by default, where to circumvent the restriction, Play Store applications began to use the accessibility API to record calls. This will no longer be possible after May 11th.

Even so, there are smartphones like the Google Pixel or Xiaomi's smarphones that do it natively. In such cases, users will not be affected and recording will continue to function properly. This measure will only affect third-party applications.
