A survey carried out by the Deloitte Global Future of Cyber Survey 2023 revealed that the vast majority of companies surveyed (91%) recorded at least one cybersecurity incident in the last year, which represents an increase of 3% compared to the previous period. The study, considered Deloitte's largest survey in this area to date, featured interviews with more than 1.000 leaders in 20 countries.
Cybersecurity incidents with negative impact
According to the survey, 56% of respondents said they had faced moderate or severe consequences in relation to episodes of cybersecurity incidents in their organizations. These results demonstrate the growing threat faced by companies. However, as this threat intensifies, so does interest in investing in cybersecurity as a growth driver.
Cybersecurity investments as business drivers
The study revealed that 86% of decision makers in the cybersecurity area stated that digital security initiatives significantly contributed to business improvement, especially in the additional confidence they provided in their areas of activity. This data points to the growing importance of cybersecurity as a strategic factor for business development and growth.
Need for proactive posture and collaboration
The Global Future of Cybersecurity survey highlighted the urgent need for organizations to take a proactive stance on cybersecurity. With the emergence of new trends in this field, such as digital interconnection and the exponential increase in data production and storage, as well as the spread of remote work, the danger of cyber-attacks and other threats to the security of organizations and the people who depend on them enlarge.
Cybersecurity on the radar of boards of directors
The study also revealed that 70% of respondents said that cybersecurity is on the agenda of the board of directors of their companies, with monthly or quarterly meetings. As part of the study, Deloitte identified a group of “global leaders,” companies that are implementing exemplary cybersecurity practices.
