Telecommunications consumers in the Niga © ria spent about US $ 6,6 billion in telecommunications consumption. The data were released on Wednesday by the professor Umar Gaarba Danbatta, Executive Vice-President of the Communications Commission of Nigeria (NCC), during the launch of the initiative NCC Year of Consumer.

According to Danbatta, NCC aims to inform and educate consumers to protect and enable them to make the right decisions this year for the use of telecommunications.

"NCC has the task of monitoring the quality of the service and ensuring that it complies with an acceptable standard."

Adebayo Shittu, the Minister of Communication in Nigeria, highlighted the commitments made by the government in formulating policies, frameworks and guidelines to protect ICT consumers. The minister added that the Nigerian government had actively involved key stakeholders to guarantee the quality of the service and the rights of consumers.

“Our aim is to strike a balance between consumer rights and privacy rights. We also excel in facilitating inter-governmental consultations on ICT issues to avoid unnecessary disparities in development structures and patterns in Nigeria ”.

According to Minister Shitu, Telecommunications play a vital role in the governance, business, education and health process. That is why Nigeria is stepping up the adoption of ICT to better respond to citizens' demands and improve service delivery to make administration more efficient.

In 2015, telecommunications consumers in Nigeria spent about $ 5,6 billion, which contributed to the possible success in the ICT sector.

Our country has a “reputation” for having communications at a high price. Will the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies in Angola provide similar data to compare with the rest of the countries in Africa?
