Samsung's South Koreans took another step towards the evolution of storage devices, recently launching the Samsung 950 PRO SSD that benefits from the M.2 interface.

Samsung 950 PRO discs are the first NVMe disk drives with the M.2 interface, with V-NAND technology and PCIe 3.0 slot. Users of Samsung 950 PRO SSDs will benefit from a performance and autonomy.

Un-Soo Kim, one of those responsible for memory development at Samsung, stated the following:

The benefit of NVMe and PCIe technology used in the development process of the 950 PRO SSD, Samsung will provide users with the necessary memory to manage the growing demand for data storage for the next generation of computers.

The benefits of the PCIe interface and NVM protocol support for the Samsung PRO 950 series offer better random and sequential performance than the SATA interface using Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) protocol. Users of applications that use a large number of IOPS (input / output operations per second) will benefit from a speed four (4) times greater than traditional SATA SSDs.

The 950 PRO SSD will be available in two variants of storage capacity, one of 256GB and one of 512GB. The 512GB version offers a sequential read / write speed of 2.500MB / s and 1.500MB / s. The random read performance is up to 300.000 IOPS, with the write speed up to 110.000 IOPS.

The unit supports 256 AES full-disk encryption for data protection and is equipped with Dynamic Thermal Guard and also to protect the drive and data at high temperatures. In addition, the SSD can withstand shocks and vibrations up to 1500G / 0.5ms. With up to 5 years warranty, and up to 200TB writing (TBW) for the 256TB version and 400 TBW for the 512GB version. The 950 PRO SSD will be available from the month of November.
