VODACOM does not have the license to be a mobile phone operator in Angola

In the last few days, information has again surfaced that Vodacom is the newest mobile phone operator in Angola, information that first appeared at the beginning of 2018 and has already been corrected.

To make things very clear, Vodacom (still) is not the new mobile operator in Angola. The last interviews granted by the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technologies were quite clear: there is a public contest that has not yet ended, at least the results were not officially released. Vodacom currently has a multi-service license (LMS), which does not include mobile telephony.

O (108) of May, which approves the General Regulation of Electronic Communications (RGCE), provides for two categories of enabling titles, namely a Unified Global Title (TGU) and a License Multiservices (LMS).

It is only incumbent upon the Holder of the Executive Branch to authorize the issuance of a Unified Global Bond, thus giving rise to the signing of a Concession Contract (Unitel, Movicel and Angola Telecom have these bonds). In turn, the Multiservice License is more “simple” to obtain, there is an administrative process with INACOM that authorizes the operation of electronic communications services with the exception of mobile telephony and pay TV services.

For now there is no final date for the presentation of the winner of the 4ª license, rumors continue...
