The Angolan delegation won eight medals in the 72nd edition ofthe Ideas, Innovation and New Products Fair, which ended yesterday(07), in Nuremberg, Germany.

There were two gold medals, three silver and three bronze that, by decision of the jury, were won in the category of “University”, both in individual and shared molds.

The gold medals went to the project “Electric Power Generation Using Solid Waste","SIRAC"and "Uvengukwa”, where, in the opinion of the jury, these projects have a common objective.

The “Electric Energy Generation Using Solid Waste” project is an innovative project that consists in the production of energy using waste, based on an incorporated system, capable of mitigating the impact of polluting gas emissions. The authors of the project are Herculano Simão, Felizardo Rocha and Abigail Soma, where they inform that the project is dimensioned to meet environmental needs.

“SIRAC” and “Uvengukwa” are projects to prevent, control and combat Covid-19. The first was created by Professors João Sebastião Teta and Carlos Mariano, which consists of an integrated COVID-19 tracking and assistance system, which allows users to participate in online screening, schedule and receive test results, as well as obtain the support from health professionals and consequent medical recommendation. The same project builds on current scientific knowledge about the most frequent symptoms and treatment of the disease to alleviate the burden on hospitals.

On the other hand, “Uvengukwa” is a project that aims to prevent the spread of Covid-19, authored by Ricardo Neves, Mateus Padoca Calado, Adérito Pedro, Lukau Garcia, and developed by the Department of Computer Science at the University Agostinho Neto and for Research & Technological Innovation (I&IT). The project is a platform capable of informing users about a closer area plagued by an active outbreak of viral disease and thus avoiding large-scale contamination.

With the 08 medals conquered in this edition, our country reaches the mark of 87 medals, being 21 gold, 31 silver and 35 bronze. The participation of women in the projects presented at this year's fair was reduced this year by 18 percent compared to last year, and 58 percent.

It should also be noted that the work of authorship and co-authorship by women was 40%, as a consequence of the reduction in support, thus reducing the number of entries in this level.

The head of the Angolan delegation to the event considered Angola's performance below expectations despite the medals won. Gabriel Luís Miguel said that it would be possible to make a better figure from the point of view of the organization.

"Several reasons contributed to this, now we must rethink our posture", said.

Angola was the third country with the highest number of projects, out of the 22 countries present in this 2021 edition.
