SMS Group is the new service launched by Movicel that allows users to select 20 numbers from any network and create a group to exchange SMSs with up to 20 people at the price of 7Kz as opposed to the 9Kz charged for SMS.
The SMS Group functions as a chat, in which a person sends a message to the group and all the members of the group receive, being taxed by only 7Kz / SMS sent to the group.
O SMS Group is an attempt by the Movicel to earn a little of what you have lost to services such as Whatsapp, Viber, Telegram, which allow users to exchange “free” messages using an internet-connected application. Some research indicates that the amount of SMS sent has decreased a lot, since applications like these became popular.
As the main advantages of Grupo SMS over “normal” instant messaging services, we can mention the fact that the user does not need to have a high-end phone. According to Movicel, groups can be created on any mobile phone from the low, medium to high-end, with or without internet access. Another advantage is the fact that it is not necessary to install any software for the use of the Group. The user can create or join as many groups as he wants.
Adhesion to the service is free and the customer is only charged when sending SMS. The cost of each message sent to an SMS Group is 7Kz, regardless of the number of users in the group (maximum allowed 20).
How to activate the service
- Send message with the text “create”For 19111
- The user receives confirmation of the creation of the group and then has to follow the following steps (described below)
- The next step is to indicate the name of the group: Ex: MenosFios
- Add members to group: Ex: Cognitive 912345678 (The numbers should have no space. Ex: 912 345 678)
- It may include up to 20 members. To add more members just repeat the above example process
- Numbers from other local operators can be added
(understand Unitel) - When you have finished the process of adding members to the group, you should send the message “Ok” and you will receive the group number, to which the messages that will be forwarded to all group members

From the tests we carried out, it seems to be a good service, but perhaps because it is recent, it still has some flaws, with emphasis on the automatic texts sent as a response during the configuration of the group, some of them in English. A problem that all users will surely experience will be the response time of the service, which showed some delay in adding members to the groups, and also for the distribution of SMS…
Something that will surely confuse users, is that the SMS assigned to the monthly plans are not used to “pay” the messages of the SMS Group. So we must be very careful about this.
Movicel offers here a service that is more accessible to everyone, as the internet is not yet the reality we want in Angola.
Besides, it seems to be a very useful service that will attract many users. The fact that it allows adding members from other networks (understand Unitel) is a point that will play much in favor.
