Angola present at the convention against the criminal use of ICTs

Since the beginning of this week, an Angolan delegation has been participating in the 3rd Negotiating Session of the Comprehensive International Convention on Combating the Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Criminal Purposes, in New York, United States of America.

According to a note from the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the Angolan group will carry out a first reading of the provisions on international cooperation, in accordance with the roadmap and way of working, as well as conduct its work based on the written proposals of the Member States, in form of specific drafting suggestions or general comments on the provisions relating to international cooperation, articulated according to the chapters contained in the structure of the convention approved at its first session, with a view to facilitating agreement and the identification of relevant issues for negotiation.

It is also expected that at this event, which runs until the 09th of September, the committee “and following the best practices” it also envisages reviewing provisions on technical assistance, and reviewing Member States' proposals.

It should be noted that the General Assembly, in its resolution 74/247, decided to establish an intergovernmental committee “and following the best practices” of experts, open membership, representative of all regions, to develop a comprehensive international convention on Combating the Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Criminal Purposes, taking into account international instruments and efforts at the national, regional and international levels to combat the use of ICTs for criminal purposes. The work and results of the intergovernmental Expert Group are intended to carry out a comprehensive study on cybercrime.
