Great Free Apps

Some applications are so good and useful that they end up being essential on the Mac OS, and the best part is that some are free.

We leave here a list of applications that are important to your Mac OS, some of them are also available for the Windows platform.

  1. VLC  - is undoubtedly one of the best media players. It supports almost any media format, and has a GNU / GPL license, it is very likely that many users already know VLC on Windows.
  2. Mplayeranother easy-to-use video application and also supports different video formats. We even have an article about MPlayer here at MenosFios.
  3. XBMC ou plex - if you intend to turn your computer into an entertainment center, the two applications will do the job, both can use the smartphone as a remote control. (If you want to know my opinion, I prefer the XBMC)
  4. DropBox - is an exceptional cloud file storage application. As soon as you save a file to Dropbox and with the automatic synchronization setting between devices, you can access it from any Wi-Fi enabled device for the respective account on different Computers, Tablets, Smartphones and on the Web itself. dropbox comes with 2,5 GB of storage space, with options to upgrade at a rate of 9,99 USD per month or 99,00 USD per year. There is also the option to increase storage by invitation or other promotions.
  5. Evernote - to help organize our lives even more, with notes, records, references etc. It can be synchronized with computers, tablets, smartphones. To better remember your note or photo you take from evernote, it creates a map of the locations where the records were created.
  6. The Unarchiver - unzips files of the most different formats out there, almost any file format you can imagine or find on the internet from ZIP, RAR, gzip, tar, bz2, exe, 7zip. You will never download anything again and be unable to unzip again, making it quite simply one of the most useful applications you can have installed on any Mac.
  7. Jumpcut - perfect for those who are used to the “Ctr + C” & “Ctrl + V” keys. Jumpcut remembers all items you copy within a limit of 99 remembrances as you configure.
  8. Caffeine - a very simple app, which allows us to configure the Mac, so as not to go to sleep while we are working (sometimes it gets boring, when the Mac always asks us for the password to unlock the screen).
  9. Transmission - is a very fast torrent client with an extremely easy to use interface and simple customization options, the application is Open Source and does not use a large amount of memory.
  10. AppClener - another much more simple application that helps us to uninstall the app on Mac, removing all possible packages of the app to be uninstalled.

Missed some App? If you lacked a good free application that you would like to include in the list, leave your opinion in the comments.
