US mobile phone operators, namely Verizon and AT&T, rejected this Sunday (2) a request by the US Government to postpone again the entry into operation of their new frequency bands 5G, due to airline industry concerns.

This would be the second change in date, as the launch date for the 5G service was initially scheduled for December 5, which was postponed to January 5, 2022.

Last Friday (31), the Secretary of Transportation of the United States, Pete Buttigieg, as well as the head of the aviation regulatory entity, Steve Dickson, formally asked the two operators for a new suspension, of a maximum of two weeks, but where AT&T and Verizon declined to respond affirmatively to this request.

"Accepting your proposal would be (…) an unprecedented and unwarranted evasion of due process”, lamented John Stankey, chief executive of AT&T, and Hans Vestberg, chief executive of Verizon, in a joint letter revealed by AFP.

In the same statement, the two giants of the mobile telephony AT&T also said that the proposal of the Department of Transportation would be “an irresponsible abdication of operational control necessary to deploy world-class, globally competitive communications networkss ".
