BlackBerry sues Snapchat for patent infringement

A BlackBerry processes the Snapchat for using its patented in-app messaging technology, a similar complaint that the Canadian company filed last month against Facebook.

BlackBerry still says the mapping system for Snapchat's new tool, called Snap Map, would have been patented in the past. The Snap Map shows the closest users on a map, which indicates their latest updates of photos and videos wherever they go.

The allegations refer to the messaging system created by Blackberry called BBM, currently available on all handsets.

The Canadian company accuses Snap of infringing on six patents issued in 2012 and 2014 and two of them are among the seven patents of BlackBerry that were in the process against Facebook filed to 6 of March.

BlackBerry Chief Executive John Chen has been working to find additional sources of revenue as investors express concern about growth rates in the company's main security-focused software businesses.

In February last year, Blackberry had also processed the Nokia due to a technology standard for mobile phone networks. At the time, the Canadian company lost the process.
