Luanda Science Center will be the first Science and Technology Center in Angola

The country will have the first “Science Center”, which will be built in the country’s capital, and which will be an institution for scientific dissemination, endowed with legal personality, administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, according to the newspaper O Country.

The creation of this unit, which will be named “Luanda Science Center (CCL)” arises from the idea of ​​the Angolan Government to create an institution specialized in the dissemination and popularization of scientific and technological knowledge within the country's civil society, with the aim of to stimulate and cultivate interest in science and technology.

The CCL will have the legal nature of a Public Institute, based on the terms of the legislation in force in the country and will have the mission of “pursuing the objectives of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy, adopted by the Executive”, thinking of carrying out activities dissemination or popularization of scientific knowledge, with the purpose of bringing scientific and technological literacy to the national population.

According to the Angolan newspaper, the CCL will be governed by the provisions of an “organic statute” respecting the orders and legislation of the Public Institutes and by the Legal regime of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation, and which establishes the normative framework applicable to the Institutions of Scientific divulgation.

It was also revealed that, although the “Centro de Ciência de Luanda (CCL)” will be located territorially in the capital of the country, it will have autonomy to carry out scientific dissemination activities in any other part of the country, and will work under the supervision of the Head of the Ministerial Department responsible for the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Finally, to inform that the CCL will have in its work agenda the creation of strategies to raise resources that aim to contribute to the profitability of the space and means of exhibition, towards financial self-sufficiency, ensuring the formal and continuous training of resources human rights, in accordance with the needs of institutions, among others.
