In 2019, information emerged that the Government of Angola will build a Science and Technology park, information guaranteed by the then Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria of the Rosary Bragança Sambo.

Approximately two years later, the subject was touched upon once more, thus giving assurances that the government will indeed move forward in 2022 with the construction of the first Science and Technology Park (PCT), which will serve to promote and incentive to scientific research, budgeted at around 45 million US dollars.

To be built in the capital city (Luanda), the park will also have research laboratories, a database for managing intellectual and scientific information. The fact was made known this Monday in Luanda by the project coordinator, Ricardo Queiroz, stressing that the infrastructure will have 18 schools for basic education, in addition to teaching institutions for training vocational and methodology advisors of science and technology teaching.

The official added that the construction of the structure is part of the Science and Technology Development Project (PDCT) which also aims at financing postgraduate study grants, research projects, carrying out activities to promote and reinforce participation of women in science, technology and innovation activities.

Ricardo Queiroz, who was speaking to ANGOP on the sidelines of the 7th National Conference on Science and Technology (CNCT) and 2nd Edition of the Technology-Based Ideas, Inventions and Innovation Fair (FieBaT), stressed that the aim is to develop skills in secondary education and support for the management of intellectual property.

Isn't replicated work being done?

In 2020 the Huawei guaranteed that it will invest US$60 million in the construction of a technological park in Angola, for training and sharing of experience on the most advanced new technologies.

Therefore, in my view, it would be easier for Huawei to work synergistically here with the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication and Higher Education, thus avoiding the construction of two parks in the country, which could end up serving for the same purpose, thus avoiding the duplication of expenses and other resources.
