The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, through the Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), recently launched in Ondjiva, Cunene, the Drought Problem Quantification Project in Southern Angola.

This is the Drought Problem Quantification Project in Southern Angola, launched in Ondjiva, the capital of Cunene province, the hardest hit by the drought, by the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

The project, which will monitor drought using satellite data, aims to demonstrate the implementation of a prototype satellite data mining system for water management and drought monitoring, according to a statement from the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information.

This is hard work involving national and international scientists, as well as experts from INAMET, GGPEN, Angolan universities and the Ministries of Environment and Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation. The institutions will study the soils, climates, rainfall, aquifers, tributaries, watersheds, estuaries, among other things, to understand well what kind of drought there is in Angola.

É It is important to note here that the study will not end the problem, but will provide advance information that will enable local governments and the central to make better decisions, taking into account the climate information (lack or decrease of water) provided. and thus anticipate precautionary measures without neglecting information from residents of drought zones.
