Windows Phone users will be happy with the news. After more than a year of waiting, Microsoft offers an update to its mobile operating system, Windows Phone.
But this update is advised for developers. Still, any user can access it, without waiting for their operator to provide the official update. In uncertain time. For that, whoever wants to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1, can use 1 of the 3 methods provided below.
1 Method (Microsoft Recommended)
- Have an appliance developer-unlocked, i.e. an unlocked developer device. Manually check for updates and you're done.
2 method (not free)
- Being registered as a developer in Windows Phone Store (Click here to register)
3 method (totally free)
- With an account at App Studio developer
As the 3 method is simple and free, this is the one we show here. Follow the steps:
- Create an account in App Studio Developer
- Go to the Windows Phone Store and download Preview for Developers application for your Windows Phone 8
- Accept the terms of use of the program
- Sign in with your default Microsoft account, which should be the same as that used in Studio Developer
- Always keep the "Enable Preview for Developers"Within the app.
If you follow these 5 steps correctly, you will only have access to the Settings menu> Phone update> Check for Update. You should see an option for Windows Phone 8.1
But do not rush, know the dangers of updating this way:
- The phone loses the factory warranty (because we use an operating system not officially made available by the manufacturer)
- You will not be able to restore your device to an earlier version. From now on you will need to work with Windows Phone 8.1 and future versions.

- This update brings only the features created by Microsoft, and does not include any other developed by the manufacturers of mobile phones.
