Elon Musk wrote on Twitter that the purchase of the platform is suspended for the time being, until the number of fake/spam accounts among Twitter's active user base is clarified.

"The deal with Twitter is temporarily suspended, pending data on the calculation that indicates that spam/fake accounts represent, in fact, less than 5% of users”, says the publication.

At the beginning of the month, Reuters had already given a note of information communicated by Twitter to the market regulator, on this subject, a piece of news that Musk links in the publication he just made.

BUT: Musk's plans for Twitter may include layoffs and 'influencers'

It referred that, among the 226 million monetizable active daily users of the social network, the weight of fake or spam accounts would be less than 5%, also indicating that this was not an effective value and that the real number could be superior.

"We did an internal analysis of a sample of accounts and estimated that, on average, fake or spam accounts during Q2022 5 accounted for less than XNUMX%”, he referred. However, it was also added thatour estimate of fake or spam accounts may not accurately represent the actual number of these accounts, and the actual number of fake or spam accounts may be higher than estimated".

The founder of Tesla and Space X, who prepares to buy Twitter for $44 billion, had already underlined that one of his priorities for the social network, in addition to making it a bastion for freedom of expression, was to reduce all untrue communication that circulates there and put an end to spam bots.

It should be remembered that in the presentation of results for the first quarter, in April, Twitter had already revealed that during the last three years it had inflated the number of users of the social network, due to a technical error that did not allow identifying when a user had multiple active accounts. The company explained, at the time, that this led to an overcount of 1,9 million users in each quarter, from the first quarter of 2019, until the end of 2021.
