The AfriOne telephone factory, inaugurated on October 14, 2020 by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has remained closed for almost two years, due to the lack of raw materials and the failure to reach an agreement with the Ministry of Education for the supply of equipment for schools.

According to what was revealed by Jornal Expansão, the cell phone assembly factory only worked with 25% of its installed capacity, which conditioned and made the production of technological devices difficult.

"The frequency of ships is not the same as before, and many of the components for assembly come this way“, said Deslandes Rafael, the company’s administrative director.

The industrial unit was financed with 15 million USD by the office of the Sheikh of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ahmed Dalmoor Al Maktoum, to assemble 250 thousand electronic devices/month. But at this point, the four production lines are closed.

The company, which is managed by the Indian group Contec Global, was installed in the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone to assemble computers (laptops and desktops), tablets and analogue cell phones and smartphones, as well as accessories. The production lines are adaptable to the assembly of other products, which may be a possibility to make the installed capacity profitable.
