O Slack is a message exchange platform that wants to break the emails and take care of business environments. Valued at about 3,8 billion, the company drew attention from Silicon Valley and awakened the competitive side of giants like Facebook e Microsoft.
This week, Microsoft introduced its solution to compete with Slack. Microsoft Teams which was revealed as an integral part of Office 365, subscription package for companies with productivity applications. In its demo video about the novelty, Microsoft describes Teams as a work-oriented messaging service with a focus on real-time collaboration.
Facebook officially launched Workplace, the solution works as a private social network, where employees of a company can see what others publish. At launch, Mark Zuckberg wrote on his Facebook page that the "Workplace will help more companies create the kind of open culture. "
One of the strong sides of the Workplace is the lower price. The amount varies between one and three dollars and depends on the size of the company (companies with more employees pay less for each one). Slack charges about seven dollars for each employee.
Microsoft Teams has brought a range of integration with external services, something that Slack already does in an excellent way. Microsoft has the advantage in this market of considerable penetration in companies. The 365 Office suite is the productivity foundation in many companies.
Just before the start of the event, Slack was already on the defensive against Microsoft. The company published an open letter on Medium, the company congratulates Microsoft for the novelty and says it will be great to have some competition. Microsoft has the advantage in this market of considerable penetration in companies. The Office 365 suite is the foundation of productivity in many companies. A lot of competition is expected between the three companies, as now the bet of Facebook and Microsoft are getting stronger.
