Facebook may be blocked in Russia

A Russia, said on Tuesday (26), through the country's communications agency, that will block access to the Facebook from 2018.

A threat that will be fulfilled if Facebook does not comply with the new legislation that requires Internet content providers to store the personal data of Russian users on servers located in the country.

Alexander Zharov, head of the Federal Communications Agency, argued that all foreign companies are required to store relevant information for Russians in Russia. Zharov also explained that the law has been in effect since 2015, and also allows free access of the intelligence of the country to the data.

The data protection law, passed in July in 2016, sets a deadline of two years for suppliers to adapt to the new standards.

The company Mark Zuckerberg has until July of 2018 to install servers in Russian territory. The social network Twitter already announced that it will do it.

Last year, the LinkedIn was blocked in Russia for failing to comply with the law. Facebook has yet to comment on Russia's statement.
