Kenya begins testing for 5G technology

And it seems that the African continent does not want to be left behind, the Safaricom launched 5G tests for its customers, the tests will start with individual and business customers in Nairobi, kisumu, Small e kakamega. As part of the test, the company plans to expand the number of 5G sites to more than 150 in nine cities in the next 12 months. The main objective during the trial period will be to establish whether customers can enjoy speeds of up to 700 megabits per second, with plans to offer speeds of 1.000 Mbps in the coming months.

5G technology can easily act as an alternative to services home fiber e fiber for business, targeting customers in locations where Safaricom has not yet deployed its fiber network. Corporate and home Internet customers on the service will receive a 5G router. 5G technology can support up to 1 million connected devices per square kilometer compared to 4G, which can only support up to 100.000 devices connected in a similar area. This makes 5G suitable for providing super-fast internet speeds in high-density areas and for connecting thousands of connected devices, such as manufacturing and supply chain management for businesses.

A Nokia and Huawei were chosen as the two technology partners to implement the deployment of the company's 5G network Safaricom. For mobile internet customers, the service will be available on selected 5G smartphones from Samsung, Huawei and Nokia, all available in Stores Safaricom. The company also revealed plans to further increase 5G Internet speeds beyond 1000 Mbps in later stages of the test.
