More than 500 Angolans have accessed pirate streaming sites in the last six months, revealed Tuesday in Luanda, the director of Anti-Piracy at software security and media technology company (Irdeto), Frinkkie Jonker .

"What seems cheap and easy can make us vulnerable. Kenya is a good example in this regard. The country's legislation allows for recourse to justice and this, in turn, orders the website's IP to be blocked” he observed.

Frikkie Jonker, quoted in a press release sent to Jornal de Angola, made these statements in the webinar hosted by satellite distribution company DSTV Angola, which discussed the context of piracy in the country and how this phenomenon has affected the main television service operators in the country.

In turn, the head of the Cyber Crimes department of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), clarified that currently around ten crimes are typified with sentences of two to eight years, for whom the SIC has, since 2015, the Cyber Crimes, having in 2017 created the Directorate of Computer Crimes.

BUT: Piracy continues to grow in recent years

The director of Multichoice Angola's legal and regulatory department, Nair Pitra, quoted in the same statement, recalled that only in 2020 did piracy become a computer crime with the approval of the New Penal Code, which provides for two years in prison and 240 fine days.

The meeting included, among the guests, the general director of TV Cabo, Francisco Ferreira, who assured that, despite the fight against piracy, the company has already submitted to SIC more than 250 complaints of theft of equipment, each valued at $150.

Francisco Ferreira also added that there is an organized network of hackers in the country who offer TV Cabo television packages at prices that have been financially damaging the company.
