Office for iPad

After many years of waiting and many rumors Microsoft has just announced this Thursday the launch of the app Office for iPad, this news was announced during an event in San Francisco (USA) by the General Manager of Microsoft Office Julia White.

The package will bring all the existing functions to the programs on the PC, including cloud storage by OneDrive that allows the recovery of files on all devices with the application installed. Office for iPad will feature Word, Excel, PowerPoint and everyone has a ribbon interface (bar-shaped options with icons), as well as the Windows and OS X versions. So far, only the iPad has not yet had the opportunity to access a full experience, as the iPhone version was launched in June last year.

The application is free to download and view documents, spreadsheets and presentations. If you want to create and edit documents, the user will have to pay a subscription for Office 365. Subscriptions are $ 6,99 per month for a personal plan and $ 9,99 for the version Home Premium which allows users to install Office on up to five PCs or Macs. The company also confirmed that it plans to deliver integrated management capabilities for Office mobile applications in the coming years.

Although Microsot Office is well known, in this platform there are the weight rivals that the Microsoft package will have to supplant as the Apple iWork: Google Drive and Quip, which already have an advantage over Office by allowing users to use many of its features, including storing documents in the cloud, without paying absolutely nothing. Microsoft has talked a bit about developing Office for the iPad in an article through its official blog:

While we were developing Office we thought a lot about what people want to do when they are on their tablet, about the features of the iPad and touch-first. We reinvented Office on iPad, keeping what people like in Office.
