The market for file storage in the cloud is increasingly competitive. This was seen when the Google lowered prices of their storage plans and when the Apple announced iCloud Drive, compatible with various operating systems.

The usual competitors, Dropbox and Microsoft, were waiting for an answer. Yesterday Microsoft decided that each user of the OneDrive service will now have 15GB of free space (previously they had 7GB). If users want to buy additional space, this is cheaper.

For example, if you don't want to use Office 365, you can buy 100GB storage space for 1,99 USD / month or 200 GB for 3,99 / month. These figures are now at the level of Google's prices.

Price updates will take effect next month, and current subscribers will automatically be migrated to the new structure. For those who subscribe to Office 365 service the good news does not stop. For 6,99 USD Office 365 subscribers will receive 1TB (in addition to the 15GB storage that comes with OneDrive).

In short:

  • Free storage rises to exits from 7 GB to 15 GB.
  • All Office 365 users can now get 1 TB of storage (the previous figure was 20GB).
  • Subscribers to “single” Office 365 will get 1TB of storage for 6,99 USD / month.
  • Office 365 Home Subscribers will get 1TB storage for up to five people for 9,99 USD / month.
  • Microsoft has also reduced monthly storage subscription fees for users who don't want Office from 7,49 USD / month to 1,99 USD for 100 GB storage. 200 GB storage goes from USD 11,49 to USD 3,99.
