Netflix will charge extra for shared accounts

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that it will ban account sharing in 2022, a measure that aims to end the distribution of accounts that should only be personal, but many users have been marketing their accounts by creating sub-accounts on the platform.

To further encourage this habit to be abandoned, there is one more novelty. From next year, an extra fee will be charged to anyone sharing their account with other users. This way of controlling the sharing of any account is nothing new and was being tested a few months ago. In some Latin American countries, an amount of around 4 euros (equivalent to 1.744,900 Kwanzas in the National Bank of Angola exchange rate) was already being charged for each user who accessed outside the address of the account.

Netflix's third-quarter earnings

A presentation of results for the quarter showed an improvement in Netflix accounts and in particular in the number of users. This value grew above expectations and shows that all the measures that were applied are starting to pay off. Still on its financial results, Netflix revealed that it increased 2,4 million users in the third quarter of the year, according to its last quarterly report. This value exceeded the expectations of the company itself, which only expected one million more subscribers.

The streaming service has now reported profits of US$1,398 billion. In addition to that, it managed to reverse its trend of constant loss of users premium, which had been going on for months. This led to its share price suffering the biggest drop in its history.
