New military agreement between Angola and Portugal extended to cyber defense

At the moment it is already notable that Angola has shown concern in matters related to cyber defense, a living proof was the realization of the Workshop on Fraud and Cybersecurity, where it was guaranteed that National cyberspace is increasingly safe.

Angola and Portugal decided to extend the existing military agreement, this new agreement will benefit the country in matters related to cyberdefense. Portuguese Defense Minister José Azeredo Lopes, who was recently received in audience by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, said that the areas covered by the old agreement, which had a positive performance, will be maintained and should be added the areas of maritime safety and cyberdefense, taking into account the new challenges facing both countries and the world.

"Today, in the area of ​​national defense, we are undergoing challenges that are completely new," said the minister, stressing that cyber-defense is now considered a new operational domain due to global threats.

Portugal has a Cyber-Defense Center, which operates in the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and the National Center for Cybersecurity, created under the National Security Office. Since 2011, the Portuguese military has participated in exercises of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which integrates 29 States and, according to the latest data, registers more than 200 million cyber incidents per day. Cyber ​​attacks increased 60 percent from 2015 to 2016.
