Operators must provide internet services within the country

The country's telecommunications operators must provide internet services within the country, where this initiative is associated with the creation of other small Internet providers, with a view to increasing jobs within the country.

For the director of the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), André Pedro, who spoke at the 5th edition of Angolan Peering Forum (AOPF, in its English acronym), an event that annually brings together several national and foreign experts, to address the state of the Internet in Angola and Southern Africa, asked the Angolan Network Operators Group (AONOG, in its English acronym) to expand Internet services to the most remote areas of the country.

"Na Lunda Sul, for example, where we recently opened Internet access points, we have an average of around 2 thousand people connecting daily from these points. This means that the need to use this service exists, therefore, there must be courage fundamentally from the private sector, because no country develops just looking at the public sector,” he highlighted.

BUT: Angola has all the capacity to develop broadband Internet

As for the 5th edition of AOPF, which was covered by the MenosFios editorial team, it was marked by approaches to the digital economy, IT-LFA Routing, Security Features, IPv6, cybersecurity and submarine cables, with the importance of putting into operation new submarine systems, such as the 2Africa, which is expected to start operating from 2024.

For the President of Angolan Internet Association, (AAI), Sílvio Almada, the quality of Internet services in Angola has seen considerable improvement and operators have made great efforts to deliver a quality service, despite the weak infrastructure that still exists in the country.
