Recently, information has emerged that the FIFA is in the process of considering the use of video replay technology in the 2018 World Cup. But it seems that now this technology is beginning to gain popularity, since there are now confirmations that the VAR (Video Assistant Replay) will be part of the Portuguese League.

In the tests already conducted by the Portuguese Football Federation, the images took a maximum of 1,7 seconds to reach the video-referee room. This is the time that passes between an event in the field and the broadcast on the TVs available for the VAR. This record is within the IFAB, which requires a maximum of 2 seconds.

Second Fernando Gomes (President of the Portuguese Football Federation), the video referee technology will be officially introduced in all NOS League games in the 2017 / 18 season.

Both the TV signal and communications between the VAR and the field referee will be coded so that there is no possibility of being intercepted targets. The excellent fiber network of Portugal, which even connects the mainland to the island of Madeira, is a huge asset.
