At a time when consumption is increasing, manufacturers are concerned about the storage space of the devices, Samsung decided to announce a real “monster”, The 30TB SSD.

The new Samsung PM1643 manages to have 30TB storage (30,72TB to be more accurate) in a compact unit of 2,5 inches.

How did Samsung build this new album?

Samsung achieved this feat by combining 32 1TB blocks of NAND flash memory, each with 16 layers of 512GB V-NAND chips. This new storage unit has almost double the space compared to the latest version of SSD launched by the South Korean company.

If you're not just concerned with space, Samsung has also made the new SSD quite fast, the PM1643 can achieve read / write speeds of up to 2.100MBps and 1.700Mbps, respectively. The previous version, of 16TB - Samsung 860 Pro SSD- has read / write rates of 560Mbps and 530Mbps, respectively.

Price and availability

Samsung has not revealed the price of the new SSD, but do not get excited, this SSD is aimed at the corporate environment because it has a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) connection instead of a SATA connector.
