Tablet WarFrom time to time the IDC, market analysis company, announces its reports on the world of technology, focusing on the sale of gadgets.

This time the focus was turned to the tablets.

Who runs the market? It's no secret that Apple dominates… and how it dominates. But in this third quarter, things have changed and Apple has lost ground.

Here's the 4 top of the tablet market in 3o2 12:
  • 1nd place: Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), - sold 14 million iPads. In the same period last year, the number was 11,1 million.
  • 2nd place: Samsung - sold 5,1 million devices against 1,2 million in the same period in 2011, which implies a growth of 325%.
  • 3nd place: Amazon - sold 2,5 million tablets. Remember that Amazon entered this market in September last year (with Kindle Fire), has already had 9% market share.
  • 4nd place:  Asus - sold 2,4 million devices and 8,6% of the market

Globally, 27,8 million tablets were sold in the 3X quarter of this year, against 18,6 million in the same period last year, representing a growth of 49,5%.

In terms of numbers, Apple's sales rose significantly, but did not exceed the percentage of competing companies (it is understood, samsung) who saw their profits soar due to the tablet launches of 7 inches.

Now you understand why Apple launched the iPad Mini !?
