Nothing better than “inviting” the most famous spy in the world: Edward Snowden. During the opening ceremony of Web Summit 2019, hundreds of people rushed to the central stage of Altice Arena to hear the author of the book “Mass Surveillance, Permanent Registration"(Permanent Record, original title).
The most striking question was “What do you do when society's most powerful institutions become the least reliable for society?“Edward Snowden thus made yet another of his attacks on governments and regulators, for allowing massive data collection to be a reality.
During an intervention by Edward Snowden, direct from Russia (via videoconference), in about 30 minutes, the former employee of the NSA (National Security Agency of the United States) criticized large companies for the business model aimed at “the abuse” of user data. The list of large companies is well known and Snowden quickly pointed to Google, Facebook and Amazon as the companies that misuse user data.
And as for the initial question, whether privacy exists, the answer was simple: “the system makes populations vulnerable for the benefit of the privileged”.
