Since October, requirements have increased, now supporting the operating system Android 5.0 or higher, iOS 12 or higher, as well as KaiOS 2.5.0 or higher, is indicated on the application's support page.

From March 1st, all devices with previous operating systems will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp. The date also served for Meta to add a new functionality to the messaging application, namely to comply with the DMA rules imposed by the European Union. Users will now be able to read and send messages to other platforms, without leaving WhatsApp.

The main reason for discontinuing old versions of smartphones concerns security and possible security vulnerabilities, as the operating systems no longer receive technical support. Incompatibility with new features, as well as minimum hardware requirements, are also highlighted.
