WhatsApp tests group voice chats

After revealing some news with the sharing of quick videos in conversations, WhatsApp now seems to be testing some new features for video calls.

The latest version of the WhatsApp app now has a new Voice Chat feature. According to the portal BetaInfo, this new feature is accessible for those on version 2.23.16.19 of Android, but it is expected to come to more users over the next few days.

WhatsApp Voice Chat is available for groups in the messaging app, and eliminates the need to make voice calls directly. This allows the members of a group to join a chat room, available to everyone, and where direct voice calls can be held.

This new feature will appear as an icon at the top of the screen, and any user can start the voice chat room. At the same time, group participants can join the room and directly start talking to all participants.

The main difference from traditional voice calls lies in the fact that, with this feature, group members are not notified directly for the creation of the call. Only a silent notification is sent at the beginning of the conversation, informing that it was created – but without direct touches in the app.

At the moment, the feature only allows 32 participants at the same time, but it is possible that this limit will increase in the near future and as the feature is developed.
